Updated October 2026

Yes, you can see Montmorency Falls on a day trip from Montréal: Concord Tours’ 13-hour coach day leaves downtown at 7 a.m., stops at the falls first with the park entry and a one-way cable car ride when it runs, then gives you a 1-hour guided walk and free time in Old Québec, and is back about 8 p.m. It is rated 4.6 from 2,109 reviews and from US$82 a person (checked October 2026), with free cancellation up to 24 hours before. It is the day to book if Montréal is your base and you want both the falls and Old Québec without an overnight stay.

The difference is where the day goes. Concord’s trip gives the falls a real stop and takes you up or down by cable car when it is running. From 11 September 2026 the cable car is seasonal and can close for maintenance, so the one-way ride is included only when it runs; Sépaq’s schedule has it closed from 2 November to 18 December 2026 and from 4 January to 5 February 2027. Gray Line’s day picks you up at your hotel and spends longer in the Old Town, but the falls get 20 minutes. In the newest 350 reviews of Concord’s trip, read on 30 October 2026, 250 give five stars; many guests found the time at the falls enough for the cable car, the bridge and the stairs, and the common complaints are the long drive, about two and a half to three hours each way, a full coach of about 50, and a guided walk that was hard to hear in a big group.

Concord sells three paid extras by season: a river cruise from June to October, the Musée de la civilisation from October to December, and the Hôtel de Glace from December to March. Some guests found the cruise ate into their free time in the Old Town.

The train and a local tour

VIA Rail runs trains between Montréal and Québec City several times a day; the trains we read for 22 October 2026 took about 3 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours 35 minutes, the 8:20 a.m. arriving at 11:39 a.m. (VIA Rail). That is a longer day than the coach for the falls alone, so the train makes sense if you stay at least one night in Québec City and join a local tour there: the half-day tour with Île d’Orléans and the basilica, or the Old Town and falls bus tour.
